Vertical Weavings

Vertical weavings are an expression of tactility and material transformation. I start by warping the loom. Then I tie the end knots and prepare the recycled materials into strips. Materials range from garment and textile scraps, to single use plastic and discarded mylar.

Each strip is tied and woven into place by hand. Based on the type of materials utilized, I sketch out the desired color progression in for the final weaving, which helps me synchronize how I lay out the strips. I incorporate the materials methodically, stepping back from time to time, to see how the the hues begin to develop from bottom to top and adjust the color density accordingly.
