Vertical Weavings

Vertical weavings are an expression of tactility and material transformation. I start by warping the loom. Then I tie the end knots and prepare the recycled materials into strips. Materials range from garment and textile scraps, to single-use plastic and discarded mylar.

Each strip is tied and woven into place by hand. Based on the type of materials utilized, I sketch out the desired color progression in for the final weaving, which helps me synchronize how I lay out the strips. I incorporate the materials methodically, stepping back from time to time, to see how the the hues begin to develop from bottom to top and adjust the color density accordingly.
