Earthly Artifacts Collection

Earthly Artifacts Collection
January 2023
The world is shaped by the way we move. Earthly Artifacts is a collection by Suzanne Tick that features four textiles inspired by the physical impressions left by humans on the earth—and the patterns created in the process.
Drawing from shared elements across art, anthropology and geology, Earthly Artifacts examines the impact and expression of nature’s organizing principles: discernable up close and undeniable at scale. Made with a variety of high-performance, recycled materials selected for multi-purpose and indoor/outdoor use—such as high-UV polyester, high-UV polypropylene, and 100% recycled polyester—Geoglyph, Pebble Melange, Particulate and Megacheck reflect our continuous desire to immerse ourselves in nature. These textiles feature layered fields of multi-color materials that create complex earthen shades, reminiscent of contemporary art and archaeological remnants.
Both abstract and representational, the Earthly Artifacts collection tells the story of topography through the lens of human intervention and the collective form of many individual paths—weaving new meaning into our relationship with the earth.

Geoglyph
Balancing the linear qualities of architecture and the groundedness of earth, Geoglyph inspires deeper engagement with the outside world—with spectrums of vivid color that honor the beauty and vitality of nature.

Particulate
While subtle and sophisticated in appearance, Particulate stands out in performance. As Luum’s first high-UV fabric for indoor/outdoor and multi-purpose use, this highly-textural, bleach-cleanable textile is crisp, cool, linenlike, and a direct coordinate to Wavefield—allowing for a variety of uses for the interior and exterior, spanning upholstery, wrapped walls, panels, outdoor areas and more. Furthermore, Particulate’s 15 colorways contain 65% recycled UV polyester fiber, creating a rich and bold palette of essential colors that range from deep to light to bright—featuring warm neutrals, vibrant greens, rich charcoals, and a subtle pink.

Megacheck
Composed of 100% recycled cationic and disperse polyester fibers, Megacheck’s was engineered for multipurpose use through a series of hand-weaving trials on the Tick Studio loom. Megacheck’s heathered effect is the result of light-and-dark contrasted and colored warp-and-weft threads, interacting to create a small-scale, color-and-weave effect. Designed to be structurally-complex and visually-inviting, Megacheck transforms spaces with a soft, textured sensation—perfect for upholstery, wrapped wall, panels and screens.

Pebble Melange
With a chunky, heathered and multi-color surface, Pebble Melange presents the perfect balance of structure and texture and an earthen color palette with pops of color throughout. Pebble Melange’s 12 colorways are inspired by contemporary artworks that mix materials like paint and clay with more unexpected ones, like shells and sand—layering fields of boucle and blended fibers to create complex shades that mimic the earth’s strata. Using a highly-curated selection of colors in the warp and custom boucle yarns in the weft, Pebble Melange creates an enhanced visual effect that coordinates directly with Geoglyph—featuring high-UV, bleach-cleanable polypropylene yarns that can be used in any indoor/outdoor space.
